At Westminster, We're more than just a community group
Our initiative began in 2010 as a bold experiment funded by the City and the Child and Youth Network.
The challenge was simple: could a neighbourhood be empowered to improve its own health with the right resources? With initial funding and a dedicated team, we set out to find the answer.
Over time, we defined what “healthier” meant for our community, and the results were clear: our model works.
As our success became evident, the city expanded the program to other neighbourhoods, and we were left to continue on our own. While the funds and staff moved on, we gained invaluable experience in working together and navigating city resources. Today, we carry that knowledge forward, continuing to make our neighbourhood a better place.
In 2011, our efforts were recognized with the Pillar Network Community Innovation Award, highlighting our commitment to innovation and community development.
Our Focus
While our roots are in health, our focus has evolved to encompass a broader goal: making our neighbourhood better in every way possible. We believe that the best way to achieve this is by empowering our community members to lead the way.

What we do?
Urban Planning
We collaborate with the community to envision and create well-designed spaces that promote sustainable growth, inclusivity, and a high quality of life.
Public Safety
We advocate for initiatives and improvements that enhance safety and security for everyone in our neighborhood.
Active Transportation
We support infrastructure and programs that encourage walking, cycling, and other forms of active transportation to connect our community in healthier and more sustainable ways.
Food Access
We work to improve access to nutritious and affordable food options for all residents, fostering a healthier, more resilient community.
Our Boundaries
The Westminster is generally located in the southern part of the city. Its boundaries can be described as:
- North: Southdale Road or Commissioners Road (depending on the specific area)
- East: Highbury Avenue
- South: Exeter Road
- West: Wonderland Road
